Beneficiaries Eligibility Requirements
Persons who died or went missing in the May 18 Democratization Movement A person who died or went missing in connection with the May 18 Democratization Movement, or a person who died from the aftereffects of a disease caused by the May 18 Democratization Movement, and who has received compensation under the Act on Compensation for Persons Associated with the May 18 Democratization Movement
Persons wounded in the May 18 Democratization Movement A person who sustained a disability or suffers from a disease in connection with the May 18 Democratization Movement, and who has been assessed with a disability rating from Grade 1 to 14 and has received compensation under the Act on Compensation for Persons Associated with the May 18 Democratization Movement
Other victims of the May 18 Democratization Movement A person who, in connection with the May 18 Democratization Movement, is classified under disability rating of Grade 1 or 2, or who was arrested, detained, imprisoned, or released after being taken into custody, or who is otherwise in financial hardship, and who has received other support payments under Article 22 of the Act on Compensation for Persons Associated with the May 18 Democratization Movement

Spouse
  • Includes those in a de facto marital relationship
  • Spouses and de facto spouses who are or were in a de facto marital relationship with a person other than a person of distinguished service to the May 18 Democratization Movement are excluded
Children
  • Includes children who are married and children adopted out of the family line
  • Applies only to one child adopted by a person of distinguished service to the May 18 Democratization Movement who has no direct descendants
Parents If the spouse of a parent other than the biological father or mother has cared for or supported a person of distinguished service to the May 18 Democratization Movement, the one who primarily cared for or supported the individual shall be regarded as the father or mother
