A person who participated in the Vietnam War between July 18, 1964, and March 23, 1973, and served as
a soldier or military official under the Military Service Act, the Military Personnel Management Act, or the
Military Service Act for Civil Servants, and who was discharged or retired, or a journalist who, with government
approval, accompanied combat or military operations and contracted a disease specified in Article 5 of the Act
on Assistance to Patients Suffering from Actual or Potential Aftereffects of Defoliants in areas where
herbicides containing dioxin were sprayed to remove foliage and other vegetation |
| Service in a frontline area in Korea |
A person who, between October 9, 1967, and July 31, 1970, served as a soldier or military official under the Military Service Act, the Military Personnel Management Act, or the Military Service Act for Civil Servants in areas adjacent to the Southern Limit Line, as designated by the Ministry of National Defense, or participated in operations involving herbicides containing dioxin used to remove foliage and other vegetation, and who was discharged or retired, and who contracted a disease specified in Article 5 of the Act on Assistance to Patients Suffering from Actual or Potential Aftereffects of Defoliants |
| Second-generation patient suffering from actual aftereffects of defoliants |
A child who contracted a disease specified in Article 5, Paragraph 6 of the Act, born after the above-mentioned service periods, whose parent was recognized as a person falling under any subparagraph of Article 5, Paragraph 1, and was determined and registered as a subject for application of this Act under the provisions of Articles 4 and 7, or who was recognized as a deceased patient suffering from the actual aftereffects of defoliants under Article 8 of the Act |
| Bereaved family members |
The bereaved family members of a person who participated in the Vietnam War and was discharged, or who served in areas adjacent to the Southern Limit Line and was discharged, and who, before registration under Article 4 of the Act, were recognized to have died from actual aftereffects of defoliants corresponding to any subparagraph of Article 5, Paragraph 1, Subparagraph 1 of the Act |
