- A soldier, police officer, or fire-fighting official who died while performing duties or training
directly related to the defense of the nation, ensuring public safety, or protecting the lives and
property of citizens (including those who died from illness)
- For firefighting officials, this applies to those who died on or after June 30, 2011, the date of
the amendment and enforcement of the Act on the Honorable Treatment of Persons of Distinguished
Service to the State (those who died before June 29, 2011, are compensated equivalently to soldiers
or police officials who died in the line of duty only if the death was related to fire suppression,
rescue, or emergency medical duties)

Civilian military employees or public officials dispatched abroad for military purposes,
journalists accredited by the government to accompany military operations, those mobilized under the former
Wartime Labor Mobilization Act, members of youth corps, local defense forces, firefighters, volunteer
firefighters, student soldiers, or other patriotic organizations who died in combat or similar acts;
individuals who sustained injuries and were medically recognized to have died from those injuries before
submitting a registration application; and those who sustained injuries and whose condition is assessed as
Grade 1 to 7 in a physical examination conducted by the Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs—are
recognized as soldiers or police officials who died in action, were wounded in action or on active duty, or
died in the line of duty |
| Veterans recognized in accordance with separate or specific laws |
Individuals such as combat police officers, security prison guards, volunteer firefighting
officials, local reserve force members, civil defense members, and public service personnel who have died or
sustained injuries, and who meet the conditions specified in the relevant laws as well as the conditions
outlined in the Act on the Honorable Treatment and Support of Persons of Distinguished Service to the State,
are recognized as soldiers or police officials who died in action, were wounded in action or on active duty,
or died in the line of duty, and are registered accordingly |
